Sticky roll traps capture and immobilize insects that stick to them. When insects come into contact with the sticky surface, they have difficulty moving and are kept under control by staying in the trap.
These traps are used to control pests and make the home environment safer. It is chemical-free, so it can offer an environmentally friendly solution.
The sticky roller can be used while the traps are effective. However, as the number of insects accumulating on the trap increases or the trap becomes dirty, it should be replaced with a new trap.
Target pest density can be significantly reduced with pheromone traps used for mass trapping. Mass trapping is a healthy and effective method to reduce the damage caused by insects and their descendants or to keep them at an acceptable level. It helps protect the plant from pests without the need for pesticide use and without polluting the environment. Because pheromones are species-specific, they do not have a negative effect on harmless or beneficial insects.
Pheromones can be used with water traps or delta-type sticky traps.
It can be used in greenhouse and open field vegetable cultivation starting from planting.
For observation purposes, 1 per 3 decares, for mass capture purposes; 4-5 traps are used per decare.
Although the lifespan of pheromones varies depending on environmental conditions, it is 6 to 8 weeks and should be replaced with new ones at the end of this period.
Use of Pheromones in Pest Control in Agricultural Production
Pheromones can be synthesized chemically and used as attractants in traps. The most important part of the trap is the apparatus that carries this attractant. This mimics the female insect’s sexual scent and attracts males into the trap. Pheromones are species-specific, and males are attracted by this scent secreted only by females of their own species.
For observation (monitoring) purposes
Pheromone traps can be used for monitoring or observation purposes. Several traps are placed in the monitoring area. By counting the insects caught during a certain period, information about the presence of harmful insects, their flight activity and density can be easily obtained. Based on this information, the spraying threshold and time can be easily determined.
